About Alton Bowman

Alton Bowman has been conserving period furniture for over 35 years. From a beginning in classical art training at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia, to auditing courses in wooden artifacts conservation at the Smithsonian Institution, to European Study trips, the goal has always been to improve the quality of the product.
Mr. Bowman is a Professional Associate member of the American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works. Based in Washington D C, the AIC is the professional organization for museum and private conservators in the United States.
The AIC provides a Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice for conservators. Alton Bowman Studio is an active participant in these opportunities for sharing and expanding the body of knowledge in this field.
In addition to being a period furniture conservator, Alton Bowman is also a furniture designer and creator. This production falls into two categories.
Original designs, furniture custom created for individuals or corporations and art furniture. The influence and knowledge acquired from 35 years of conservation of great furniture becomes apparent in the design, materials and craftsmanship of these pieces.
